Coaches and Managers

Coaches and Managers

Coaches and Managers are crucial to the successful operation of our club.  The information below is intended as a reference for all coaches and managers.

Here is the link to the Power Point presentation from our September Coach/Manager meeting:

+Applying to Coach at BGSC

Each spring BGSC asks all its returning coaches to complete a Coaching Application form:

BGSC also complies with the BC Soccer Association Risk Management Policy as well as our own BGSC Risk Management process. This includes requiring all adult volunteers (coaches and managers) to complete a police criminal record check (see the Criminal Record Check section on this page for details).

+Criminal Record Check

BGSC values the safety of its players and volunteers, and as such complies with the BC Soccer Association Risk Management Policy as well as our own BGSC Risk Management process. This includes requiring all our volunteers over the age of 19 to obtain a Criminal Record Check (CRC).  This CRC must be kept on file with the club.

BGSC policy requires an updated CRC every two years (which exceeds the BC Soccer requirement of every three years).

If your most recent CRC is set to expire before the end of the upcoming season, a new one will need to be completed.

The CRC can now be completed online.  Please email the Club Manager for log in and password information.

You may also apply in person.  To make the process smoother, we have provided the following instructions for Burnaby residents.

Burnaby residents can print this Volunteer Letter and show it to at the time of application and the CRC fee will be waived.

If you are not in Burnaby your local police force may require you to pay for your CRC.  BGSC will reimburse you for your CRC, just send us your receipt along with the original CRC document.

Please note, since you will be working with children, a Vulnerable Sector check is also required.

A CRC belongs to the organization that requests it and it cannot be shared between organizations.  Unfortunately, digital copies are not acceptable.  You can forward the original CRC document by postal mail to:

Burnaby Girls Soccer Club
attn: Tom Berry
Box 1221
#140-6200 Mackay Ave
Burnaby BC  V5H 4J8

If you have any questions, please e-mail clubmanager@burnabygirlssoccerclub.com

We thank you for not only respecting the CRC process, but also for volunteering your time to the BGSC!

+Selecting a Coach

The following criteria are considered during the BGSC coaching selection process:
  • Coaching qualifications, including certifications
  • Previous compliance with the club policies
  • Overall commitment to BGSC
  • Years with BGSC
  • Total years coaching
  • Assessment of coaches on the field technical abilities during prior season
  • Coaches ability to deal with situations pertinent to girls age & level
  • Affiliation to team (daughter on the team)
A coaching selection committee, led by our Technical Department, will conduct interviews with coaching candidates.  Please note, only coaching applicants being considered for a coaching position will receive an interview.

All volunteers, including parents, are welcomed and encouraged to apply for coaching positions.  Please note, that for Select and Division 1 teams, the preference is to select a coach without a daughter on the team where a qualified candidate is available.

+BGSC Coaches/Managers Code of Conduct

The athlete/coach relationship is a privileged one. Coaches play a critical role in the personal as well as athletic development of their athletes. The Board of Directors of Burnaby Girls Soccer Club (BGSC) has developed this Code of Conduct to clarify and distinguish approved and accepted professional and ethical behaviour from that which is detrimental to the development of the sport of soccer. This code applies to all team officials - Head Coach, Assistant Coach(es), Manager/Trainer or Team Representatives.
